Wild Sea Women
My Story
Wild Sea Women are a community of women who meet at least once a week at the beach to practice breathing techniques and meditations to aid with relaxation, before taking a dip or a swim in the sea.
Our group began in June 2020 in the middle of lockdown, and it was our intention that many women could benefit greatly from not only the benefits of the cold water for their body and mind, but also to connect with other women in a safe and supportive environment.
Our group has grown to over 9000 members, spanning from many beaches around the NE of England and the SW of & NE Scotland, and is ran by 32 amazing volunteers, all who play a massive role and make such a big difference to the lives of the women in our community.
We welcome women from all walks of life, and everyone who joins our sessions are there for their own reasons, whether this is to help with their mental or physical health or to simply connect and feel supported in the company of other likeminded women.
Although sea dipping has many health benefits, it's also classed as an extreme sport and so comes with its risks too, which is why we're wishing to raise money to help make our sessions even safer for all participants.
We decided to fundraise with Red Sky Foundation as together we can support one another and raise money for some of the essentials that we require; defibrilators and other life saving equipment such as Tow Floats (to hire out on a deposit basis to anyone who doesn't have a float). And also to purchase lifeguard Tubes which our leaders of each session can keep to hand should anyone require some assistance getting out of the sea.
